I know we had an email exchange with your search for information (which PzC happens to be one series were my coverage is still under development (mainly with the HPS back catalog). But in the end, it is all coming out of the same source. The distinction becomes a little blurred in that JTS develops the updates for titles published by HPS Simulations (and put out by HPS Simulations) and continues to do so.
JTS is now publishing all new titles in Panzer Campaigns (and other series). On JTS and HPS, JTS is the developer for the PzC series even during the time when HPS Simulations was the publisher. However there are some mechanisms like new optional rules that are introduced that have an impact on a scenario (naturally only if selected), but the trade-off is that none of these scenarios undergo playtesting (not the older titles, at least - the newer ones where the mechanism is introduced would generally be playtested (although the caveat here is that I haven't ever served on a playtesting team from the Panzer Campaigns side of the JTS house.). Generally speaking the developer teams don't have time to update the scenarios to the latest version of the engines available (although there are also examples of some teams that do do this in some of the other series. It is exactly right in that even if an engine does change, many times scenarios need to be updated in order to take advantage of the newer engine mechanisms. What JTS did recently (earlier this year iirc), was to canvas for which titles players were interested in seeing be given priority to update to the most current series engine. Or maybe a better explanation is that the programming requirements can vary from title to title even within a particular game series.). In the general sense, the update process was described accurately, although in practice JTS (the developer for Panzer Campaigns -more on this a little later), hasn't been able to always release blanket updates for all of their titles (as I think I remember the explanation)- was that not all of the titles in a series, such as Panzer Campaigns are always at the same place coding-wise.
Hi folks, What I wanted to ask - is the game engine between those 17 or so titles consistent, or were some minor upgrades done incrementally to each new game throughout the years? Or perhaps - were any new features retroactively added to older titles via patches? Hi Joe: I am going to have to take these questions a bit incrementally. And as I learnt today, there are also the 'Total War In Europe' series, that started recently, and these games have a higher level of organization (less granularity), so might be an alternative for folks searching for these. That is what I expected reading the pages about PCs As per the scale - I cannot say prematurely, if I will like all of them or every aspect, once I decide to dive in, but I also like from reading about it, so that might be a hint as to why I delved deeper once I got word about Panzer Campaigns.
